A 19th century French Grand Tour neoclassical gilt brass model souvenir of the Egyptian obelisk from Luxor, situated in the Place de la Concorde in Paris, mounted on a black Onyx base, with mercury thermometer reading in both Fahrenheit and the superseded Reaumur temperature scales . The actual obelisk in pink granite was a gift to the French in 1829 by the viceroy of Egypt, Originally marking the entrance to the Amon temple at Luxor, over than 3,000 years old.
